Letters from Fr. Carlos

This weekend we celebrate both the Ascension of the Lord and Mother’s Day, both of which are joyful occasions for the Church. The Ascension of the Lord commemorates the end of Jesus' earthly ministry and reminds us that the Lord now stands before the Father in heaven, interceding on behalf of fallen humanity. The great commissioning of the salvific work he has begun here on earth has now been passed on to his apostles and disciples (us). We the adopted sons and daughters of God will soon be graced with the Holy Spirit to grace and guide us in this mission.

Although Mother’s Day is a secular holiday, I think we are all aware of how much the Church values the gift of motherhood. Our most venerated saint is, after all, the Blessed Mother. So celebrating and acknowledging this on a Sunday seems fitting (although this year the Ascension liturgically takes center stage). I want to personally thank and celebrate the love and sacrifice of all mothers on this day—our Blessed Mother, our own mothers and any woman who has been a mother figure to us. May God bless you in this great and holy mission of loving us in the tender way that only a mother can.

On the home front…the work on the basement leak is finished. Amen. And we seem to be well positioned in replacing our school boilers this summer.

Finally, the Cardinal has informed me that we will be getting one of the newly ordained men as our associate pastor. He will become Fr. Martin Nyberg on May 18th. This is a great honor for our parish, as special care is always taken to make sure a priest's first assignment is a good community, one that the Cardinal and his advisors feel confident can help shape, guide and love this new priest in his early formative years. I am proud that they have chosen our parish and I hope you will be as excited as I am to welcome Fr. Martin to the parish on July 1st. Please keep him in your prayers as he prepares to receive the gift of Priestly Ordination this month.

That's all for now, and thank you again for your support of our parish family.
